Specifically, the plea targeted the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and its leader, the current Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. During his final campaign rally in Chennai, Vijay allegedly appealed directly to young children. He reportedly encouraged them to throw tantrums and pressure their parents to vote for his party.
Consequently, social media platforms flooded with videos. These clips showed young kids crying, swearing, and aggressively forcing their families to support TVK. The petitioner strongly argued that this strategy amounts to the cruel exploitation of minors.
High Court’s Oral Warning
A Division Bench heard this highly sensitive matter. During the hearing, the judges made incredibly strong oral remarks against this manipulative tactic. They firmly declared that using children for political gain is absolutely unacceptable.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) already maintains strict guidelines. These rules completely ban child participation in political rallies, poster distributions, or campaign speeches. Therefore, turning kids into emotional weapons clearly violates both electoral laws and child rights.
Because of these blatant violations, the Court demanded immediate answers. The judges officially sought a detailed response from the ECI regarding their failure to intervene promptly.
Massive Cash for Votes Allegations

The plea alleges that these parties openly bribed voters with cash during the 2026 legislative elections.
